20 July 4 pm New Writing Sunday Ten in a Bed 5th Birthday Special "It might be the best bargain ever" -Molly Gunn, Urban Junkies |
Following on from the success of last year's event marking the first birthday of New Writing Sunday, this July will see us celebrating five years of Ten in a Bed with music, merriment and of course some brand new writing. And probably some cake. The programme includes rehearsed readings of Marty and George from former television presenter and noted aphorist Neil McLachlan and the immensely popular Exodus by Andrew Curtis, which was selected by the audience at our Election Special on 11 May. In Exodus we find Charlie in the navy just after world war two as he reminisces about his rural upbringing. As an old man, alone and a widower, he uses alcohol to fight memories of wartime atrocities and lost love. Johnny, on the other hand, is hyperactive and full of life as he tells the story of his meteoric rise and how it put him in contact with the man he loves. Marty and George focuses on two ageing New Yorkers who meet every week to sit on a park bench and talk, confronting their broken dreams with skewed logic. As ever, the audience will have the chance to participate in lively discussion with the writers following the performance, plus live music from Martin Murphy, complimentary wine and some sketches. It is sure to be another intriguing and inspiring afternoon of the best new writing in our customary relaxed atmosphere. Clerkenwell Theatre Free glass
of wine and refreshments provided. |
